DESCRIPTION

Genasun GV-5-MOD Li MPPT Solar Charge Controller

The Genasun GV-5-MOD Li is a compact 5A MPPT solar charge controller designed for OEM and embedded solar applications using 3S or 4S lithium-ion battery packs. Built as a connectorised PCB module, it brings the proven GV-5 platform into a plug-in format that can integrate directly with a host PCB, helping reduce wiring, assembly time and enclosure space in small solar-powered products.

This Li version is intended for 11.1V 3S or 14.8V 4S Li-ion LiPo, LiCoO2, LiMn or LiNi battery configurations, with selectable CC/CV charge profiles via the charge profile pin. The default profile provides a 12.5V CV setpoint for 3S packs, while the secondary profile provides a 16.7V CV setpoint for 4S packs. That makes it well suited to engineered low-power systems where the charge voltage must be matched carefully to the battery pack design.

With high-speed Maximum Power Point Tracking and typical electrical efficiency up to 99.85%, the GV-5-MOD Li is built to harvest more usable energy from small PV modules than a basic PWM controller, particularly when light levels are changing. The controller is rated for up to 55W on the default 3S profile and up to 75W on the 4S profile, with a 27V maximum input voltage and a recommended maximum panel Voc of 22V at STC.

  • Embedded PCB format: 24-pin dual-row shrouded header for direct integration into OEM products and compact control boards.
  • Dual lithium profiles: Selectable 3S and 4S Li-ion CC/CV charge profiles using the charge profile select input.
  • 5A rated output: Supports up to 5A battery charge current and a 5A continuous load output with low voltage disconnect.
  • Efficient MPPT operation: High-speed 15Hz tracking with 99+% typical tracking efficiency.
  • Low standby draw: 0.125mA standby consumption helps reduce parasitic drain in unattended solar systems.
  • External indication options: Red and green LED outputs support external status and error indication in a finished product.

Designed for compact engineered solar products

The GV-5-MOD Li is a strong fit for applications such as portable equipment, environmental monitoring, asset tracking, pay stations, kiosks and other low-power off-grid electronics where a purpose-built embedded solar charging module is preferred over a cased controller. The module uses a 0.100 inch gold-plated 24-pin shrouded header and provides connections for panel, battery, load, charge profile selection and LED outputs.

Important lithium system considerations

Genasun specifies that Li controllers use the CC/CV charging profile indicated on the controller. The battery pack specifications must be checked to ensure the CV voltage is correct, and the power supplied by the solar array and controller must be within the battery pack design limits. Genasun also recommends using a lithium battery with a Battery Management System capable of disconnecting the solar charge controller if any cell is outside its rated temperature, current or voltage range.

For compact embedded solar builds that need efficient, low-consumption MPPT charging in a PCB module format, the GV-5-MOD Li provides a proven Genasun solution for carefully specified 3S and 4S Li-ion systems.

Damage caused by unsuitable mounting, inadequate ventilation, moisture, water ingress, dust, corrosion, excessive heat, vibration, insufficient clearance, unsuitable substrate selection or other installation environment issues is not a manufacturing defect and is not covered by this warranty.

System Protection and Fault Isolation

The installer must incorporate suitable protective devices and design measures appropriate to the product and installation type. This may include correctly rated fuses, circuit breakers, isolators, over-current protection, over-voltage protection, reverse-polarity protection, surge protection, correct cable sizing and other protective devices required by standards or best practice.

The installer is responsible for ensuring that a fault or failure in one component does not cause cascading damage to other components. Damage to Genasun products caused by inadequate system protection, poor fault isolation, incorrect protection settings or missing safety devices is not covered by this warranty.

Service Accessibility Requirement

Products must be installed in a manner that allows reasonable access for inspection, testing, servicing, removal and replacement. We are not responsible for additional labour, structural modification, access equipment, removal of fixtures, cabinetry, panels, flooring, trim, sealants, adhesives or other costs arising from installation methods that restrict reasonable access to the product.

Installation Documentation

We may require documentation of the installation when assessing a warranty claim. This may include photos of the product in its installed location, wiring diagrams, system layout, solar panel details, battery details, serial numbers, details of connected equipment, installer details, commissioning records, service history, fault logs, operating settings and maintenance records.

Failure to provide reasonable installation evidence may limit our ability to assess the claim.
