Victron Lynx Smart BMS 1000 M10: Advanced Battery Management for High-Capacity Lithium Systems
Integrated Protection and Control for 12V, 24V, and 48V Victron Lithium Smart Battery Banks
The Victron Lynx Smart BMS 1000 M10 is a dedicated battery management system engineered for Victron Lithium Battery Smart series (LiFePO4). It provides comprehensive protection, monitoring, and control for large-scale energy storage, making it an essential component for demanding off-grid, marine, and mobile applications. This unit is designed to manage battery banks up to 84 kWh in 12V systems and 102 kWh in 24V and 48V configurations, supporting up to 20 batteries in series, parallel, or series/parallel arrangements.
Unlike generic BMS solutions, the Lynx Smart BMS integrates a high-current contactor, pre-charge circuit, and advanced communication protocols into a single, modular unit. This reduces installation complexity, eliminates the need for external pre-charge resistors, and enhances system reliability. The built-in 1000 A continuous contactor serves as both a primary safety disconnect and a remote-controllable main switch, while the pre-charge circuit mitigates inrush currents that can damage inverters and chargers.
Key Features
- 1000 A continuous contactor with 1200 A peak rating for 5 minutes, ensuring safe disconnection under heavy loads
- Integrated pre-charge circuit prevents high inrush currents, protecting downstream electronics
- Bluetooth monitoring and control via VictronConnect app for real-time state of charge, voltage, current, and alarms
- VE.Can and NMEA 2000 communication for seamless integration with GX devices (e.g., Cerbo GX) and marine MFDs
- Fuse monitoring for up to four Lynx Distributors, providing alerts for blown fuses via VictronConnect or VRM Portal
- Programmable relay for alarm or alternator field control, with Alternator ATC mode for safe alternator shutdown
- AUX output (1.1 A) to power critical loads like a GX device after a low-voltage disconnect
- Instant readout of key parameters without connecting to the BMS, enabling quick diagnostics
Advanced System Integration and Safety
The Lynx Smart BMS works in concert with Victron inverter/chargers and solar chargers through a connected GX device and DVCC (Distributed Voltage and Current Control). This enables automatic charge and discharge control based on cell-level data, optimising battery health and longevity. The ATC (Allow-to-Charge) and ATD (Allow-to-Discharge) contacts provide direct control over third-party chargers and loads with remote on/off ports, expanding compatibility beyond Victron equipment.
For marine installations, the VE.Can interface uses standard RJ45 cables and supports NMEA 2000 (and J1939) protocols, allowing battery data to be displayed on multifunction displays. A VE.Can to NMEA 2000 micro-C male cable is required for direct connection. The system also monitors up to four Lynx Distributor modules via RJ10 connections, reporting individual fuse status and triggering alarms if a fuse blows, which is critical for maintaining uptime in remote or unattended systems.
Robust Construction for Demanding Environments
Housed in an IP22-rated ABS enclosure, the Lynx Smart BMS 1000 M10 features tinned copper busbars (8 x 30 mm) with M10 stud terminals (torque: 33 Nm, or 17 Nm for earlier serial numbers). These heavy-duty connections accommodate large-gauge cables, ensuring minimal voltage drop at high currents. The unit operates reliably in temperatures from -40 °C to +60 °C and withstands up to 95% non-condensing humidity, making it suitable for engine rooms, outdoor enclosures, and mobile installations.
Why Choose the Lynx Smart BMS Over Generic Alternatives?
Standard BMS units often lack integrated contactors, requiring external relays and complex wiring that increase failure points. The Lynx Smart BMS consolidates these functions, reducing installation time and potential faults. Its pre-charge circuit eliminates the need for manual pre-charge procedures, which can be hazardous and inconvenient. Additionally, the seamless integration with Victron's ecosystem provides a unified monitoring experience, from the battery to the inverter, through a single interface.
For system builders, the ability to monitor fuse status remotely reduces troubleshooting time and prevents unexpected downtime. The programmable relay adds flexibility for alternator control, ensuring that the alternator is disconnected before the battery in a fault condition, protecting both the alternator and the electrical system.
