Victron 1000A/50mV Current Shunt for BMV Battery Monitors

Precision Current Measurement for High-Capacity DC Systems

The Victron 1000A/50mV shunt is a robust, high-accuracy current sensing resistor designed to extend the measurement range of your Victron BMV battery monitor. By replacing the standard 500A shunt with this 1000A model, you can safely monitor larger current flows in demanding 12V, 24V, and 48V DC systems. This makes it an essential upgrade for off-grid solar installations, marine electrical systems, RV and caravan power setups, and industrial battery banks where high currents are common.

Engineered with solid brass terminal blocks and multiple M10 connection studs, this shunt ensures low-resistance, high-conductivity connections that minimise power loss and heat buildup. The 50mV output at rated current provides a precise signal to your BMV monitor, enabling accurate state-of-charge tracking, current flow monitoring, and battery health analysis.

Why Upgrade to a 1000A Shunt?

Standard battery monitors often ship with a 500A shunt, which can become a bottleneck in systems with large inverters, multiple charging sources, or high surge loads. Upgrading to the Victron 1000A shunt eliminates this limitation, allowing you to:

  • Monitor high-current DC circuits without risk of shunt saturation or inaccurate readings
  • Support large inverter/charger systems up to 1000A continuous
  • Improve system safety by using a shunt rated well above your maximum expected current
  • Maintain accurate battery monitoring even during heavy engine cranking or winch operations

Built for Demanding Environments

Victron shunts are known for their durability and precision. This model features a sturdy non-conductive insulated base with pre-drilled mounting holes for secure, vibration-resistant installation. The parallel resistive elements are designed for stable current sensing and effective thermal management, ensuring consistent performance even under sustained high loads. The solid brass blocks provide significant thermal mass, helping to dissipate heat and maintain accuracy.

  • 1000A continuous current rating for high-demand applications
  • 50mV output for precise, low-noise signal transmission to your BMV monitor
  • M10 brass stud terminals accept heavy-duty cable lugs for secure, low-resistance connections
  • Compact footprint (168 x 58 x 25.6 mm) fits easily into existing battery compartments
  • Insulated mounting base with 6 mm holes for straightforward installation

Seamless Integration with Victron BMV Series

This shunt is a direct replacement for the 500A shunt included with Victron BMV-700, BMV-702, BMV-712, and BMV-712 Smart battery monitors. It connects using the same voltage sensing screws and RJ12 communication cable, making the upgrade quick and tool-free. Once installed, your BMV will automatically scale its readings to the 1000A range, giving you full visibility into your system's performance.

For systems requiring even higher current measurement, Victron also offers a 2000A and 6000A shunt, but the 1000A model strikes an excellent balance between capacity, size, and cost for most marine, RV, and off-grid solar applications.

Applications

  • Marine electrical systems: Monitor house and starter battery banks with confidence, even during engine cranking or bow thruster operation
  • RV and caravan power: Track energy usage from inverters, solar chargers, and DC loads without exceeding shunt limits
  • Off-grid solar installations: Accurately measure charge and discharge currents in 24V and 48V battery banks
  • Industrial backup power: Ensure reliable battery monitoring in UPS and telecom systems

Note: This shunt is rated for 1000A continuous current. For optimal accuracy and longevity, ensure your system's maximum sustained current does not exceed this rating. Typical de-rating factors apply in high-temperature environments.

Upgrade Your Battery Monitoring Today

Don't let an undersized shunt limit your system's potential. Order the Victron 1000A/50mV shunt and gain the precision and capacity you need for reliable, high-current battery monitoring. Whether you're cruising the coast, living off-grid, or managing a critical power system, this shunt delivers the accuracy and durability Victron is known for.

WARRANTY

Victron Energy Limited Warranty Policy

Victron Energy warrants its products to be free from defects in workmanship and materials for a period of 5 years from the date of purchase by the end user, with a maximum of 66 months from the Victron Energy invoice date. Exceptions on this are: lead acid batteries; 2 years from date of purchase by the end user, with a maximum of 30 months from the Victron Energy invoice date, Lithium-ion batteries; 3 years from date of purchase by the end user. In addition to this proof of correct battery usage is required when making a battery warranty claim.

During this period, Victron Energy will, at its option, repair or replace the defective product free of charge. The warranty does not include performing or reimbursing de‐installation, transportation and re‐installation. This warranty will be considered void if the unit has suffered any physical damage or alteration, either internally or externally, and does not cover damages arising from improper use like: • Reverse of battery polarity. • Inadequate connection. • Mechanical shock or deformation. • Contact with liquid or oxidation by condensation. • Use in inappropriate environment (dust, corrosive vapor, humidity, high temperature, biological infestation...). • Breakage or damage due to lightning. • Connection terminals and screws destroyed or other damages, like overheat, due to insufficient tightening. • For any electronical breakage except due to lightning (reverse polarity, over‐voltage due to external cause), the state ofthe internal control diode and of the inputs/output X and Y capacitors determine the warranty.

This warranty will not apply where the product has been misused, neglected, improperly installed, or repaired by anyone else than Victron Energy or one of its authorized Qualified Service Partners. In order to qualify for the warranty, the product must not be disassembled or modified.

Repair or replacement are our sole remedies and Victron Energy shall not be liable for damages, whether direct, incidental, special, or consequential, even caused by negligence or fault.

Victron Energy owns all parts removed from repaired products. Victron Energy uses new or reconditioned parts made by various manufacturers in performing warranty repairs and building replacement products. If Victron Energy repairs or replaces a part of a product, its warranty term is not extended.
